The vast majority of the time, sunscreens are listed, which has less strict requirements compared to registration (sunscreens are considered lower risk than many other medications out there). Therapeutic sunscreens need to be listed or registered with the TGA. However, this means that the product has to be marketed so that it’s clear that its primary purpose is NOT as UV protection, so that consumers aren’t led to rely on a substandard product to protect against the sun – a line which I think is sometimes overstepped. So to avoid classification as a therapeutic sunscreen (and therefore avoid a lot of administrative costs and hurdles, which are sometimes difficult to overcome), a product can classify itself as a moisturiser with an SPF 15 (the most common situation in my experience). the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) regulates the ingredients.the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) regulates safety and labelling. These are regulated like regular cosmetic products: sunbathing skin care products with SPF between 4 and 15 (under 300 g or 300 mL).moisturisers with SPF 15 or lower (under 300 g or 300 mL).(Sunscreens containing some specific ingredients are also regulated: insect repellent, human-derived ingredients, and… animal organs.)Ĭosmetic sunscreens are everything else, including: medications or drugs), so they’re regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (the TGA – similar to the FDA in the US, but the drug part only). ![]() ![]() This weekend will be my last while working at nA, so we’ve planned a holiday and farewell dinner. PRP: As you’re finishing up the week, what are your plans for this weekend? But, I felt surprisingly comfortable and confident while working in the ‘real world’. The timelines are different, and I actually have free time. I haven’t quite figured this one out yet, but most likely, I’ll mention my surprise at how similar I found my experience to school work. PRP: What is the first thing you'll tell your classmates upon your return to UT? However, since there are so few of us, it has led to more opportunities for me to contribute to a wide range of projects and have a real impact on them. We still work from home a bit, which can make for some quieter days around the office. All in all, everyone works really hard and creates amazing work that is inspiring to be around. ![]() Said bakery also only opens on the days we’re in office since pre-pandemic nA employees were likely their primary source of income. And, if there’s a birthday, someone will run downstairs to the bakery in our building and buy sweets for the office. All of us usually have lunch together with whoever’s in the office that day, either down by the East River or in a conference room when there’s bad weather. Since everyone works in the same space, it's almost too easy to talk across the room when discussing projects or chit-chatting. On an ordinary day, the office is focused, yet relaxed. Yet, we are surprisingly diverse with people from all around the states and some international. The firm culture is much like a school studio especially since there are only 10 of us total. PRP: Describe the firm culture? The office atmosphere? So, I’m in the process of posting a series of LinkedIn updates while refreshing the Costco website, waiting for the 45-count, individually packed Goldfish to come back in stock. I’m also part office/marketing manager for the time being, and we are out of Goldfish and need to update our LinkedIn. The other is an RFP for a music school in Brooklyn where I’m helping conceptualize an approach and programmatic design for our submission. One is the concept design of a master plan for a visual arts center in New Jersey, doing diagrams, programmatic sketches, and 3D modeling/rendering. I try to keep them all organized, but I usually fail. On my desk, I have a bottle of hot water, coffee that's somehow always cold, post-its, my 4th notebook since starting, some prints to drop off at another office, and a stack of papers and drawings from current and previous projects. PRP: What is currently on your desk? What are you working on? Also, a great phenomenon is furnishing whole apartments (including some of my own) with perfectly good furniture found on the side of the road, year-round. It's surprising how blissfully small the city can feel so easily. The views are stunning, I walk past and say ‘hi’ to the same few people, and sometimes get the whole bridge to myself. I tend to walk to and from the office, which is about a 40-minute walk over the Manhattan Bridge, and that walk is one of the hidden treasures of my whole experience. ![]() Despite all the bustle, there are also quiet times when the city feels peaceful. There’s always a pop-up shop or exhibition, free food, farmer’s markets, or some kind of public event happening, and I always manage to stumble across them. During the pandemic, lots of businesses took advantage of street space, which has led to a beautiful outdoor-oriented city life with food and music no more than a few blocks away at any given time. Since the office is in DUMBO, I had the chance to live in Manhattan, so I’ve been able to experience both boroughs! Living and working in NYC is truly an amazing experience. ![]() PRP: Do you enjoy the city you’re working in? Favorite aspects? They have a wonderful emphasis on blurring the lines between inside v. That's not to say you shouldn't try to enunciate your words (you should), but the best dictation software can usually correctly roll with the minor flubs and stumbles of everyday speech. Software that accurately captures your speech inspires confidence, letting you focus on what you say and less on how you say it. Whether sending a text message or dictating your TPS report, getting your words right should be the highest priority. What makes a great dictation app?Īll of our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. Think: taking a walk while "writing" your next novel. And the casual user can dictate notes, a shopping list, a text, or a reminder while performing other tasks, making multi-tasking a reality. Students can write papers and transcribe lectures into notes depending on the software's capabilities. And those with chronic conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome can prevent the repetitive stresses that come with typing, simply by using their voice.īut as the technology has improved over the last 20 years and costs have come down, dictation software is now accessible to everyone as a tool to increase productivity almost instantly. For example, if you're unable to use your hands, you can still operate a computer, create documents, and access the web with dictation technology. Why would you want to do that? For starters, dictation software provides accessibility to those with disabilities-both physical and language-based-to access technologies and be more productive. These are fine for scheduling meetings, playing music, and finding a place to eat, but they aren't designed to transcribe your articles, meetings, and other documents.įor this review, I'm focused on software, whether standalone or embedded in a device, meant for transcribing speech to text. Then there are those AI assistants built into many of the devices we use each day: Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Microsoft's Cortana. And you may run across companies that provide human transcription services-using real people to transcribe your voice files to text. ![]() Others market themselves as personal AI assistants (performing all computer tasks using speech) and may include a dictation component. But sometimes lumped into a search for these terms are products that provide something else entirely.įor example, some products will transcribe audio files to text, but they don't transcribe your voice to text in real-time.
